An update on DYA 2019

Dudley Youth Council (DYC) is a group of local young people aged between 11 and 19 (and up to 25 for those with a disability) who represent young people’s views and work towards improving things for young people in the borough.

DYC organises an annual ‘Dudley Youth Award’s’ Ceremony to recognise and celebrate the positive achievements and contributions young people make to their local communities. As well as this there is one category awarded to an Adult who is awarded for outstanding contributions to youth.

Dudley Youth Award was launched in 2004 in response to young people’s concerns about negative stereotyping through the media. The event was so successful that it won a national award from the National Youth Agency for ‘Best Publicity Campaign by a Youth Group,’ in their Positive Images Media Awards.

This is the 14th year that Dudley Youth Council, with the support of the youth service has celebrated the incredible young people aged 11-19 (and up to 25 for those with a disability) we have in the borough. As a tribute to the 14th Youth Award, they have added two NEW Categories including the Leadership Award and The Freedom Award. The link for nominations is https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/DYCAwards2019 and if you would like to nominate through video footage go onto our website for a paper form. Remember the deadline for Nominations is 14th February 2019 so get nominating!

Amman Ahmed (Communication Officer) said ‘ Dudley Youth Awards have been a great success in our borough for many years now and we are are thankful to everyone who nominates and spreads the word of DYA. That’s why we are calling all Teachers, Parents and even youth to nominate someone who is good at art, sport or even enjoys looking after nature for this years Dudley Youth Awards!

This year we are very fortunate to have Dudley College as our venue  for this years Musical Themed Awards. If you would like to sponsor us in any way it could be raffle prizes, food or even stage decorations please contact us on dudleyyouthcouncil@gmail.com . ‘

Oli Preece said DYA is going into its fourteenth year of celebrating young people’s accomplishments in Dudley. It is imperative to combat the negative stereotypes put upon young people and by highlighting the amazing achievements of others, we can change opinions everywhere
